Car carrier trailers are heavy duty semi trailer used for transporting smaller passenger vehicles. Most are open to allow for more vehicles to be carried with less weight and more cargo space. The cars are often stacked in two rows, one on top of the other, often with room for an extra car hanging over the cab of the semi truck. They are equipped with ramps to easily load cars on and off and include power hydraulics to raise and lower ramps for better accessibility. They often require cars to be in working order so that they can be driven on and off the trailer. Once in place, the cars are secured with chains, tie downs or wheel straps.
